Turkey Day…

Happy Turkey Day….Sorry I know I am a day late, but I wanted to say it with pictures! You know how boring a blog post is without pictures. Out here in cyber space keeping a reader’s attention is a difficult task, so I try to add visuals as often as possible…

Anyway, today I am lying around in my pjs in a post-Thanksgiving-Day food coma. Lucky for me, I am doing so in some posh surroundings. A friend of mine who works for the Embassy (Elise) is out of town for the week, and offered to let a few of us come over and make Thanksgiving dinner at her house…

Elise's dog, Magi...he has been so sad missing his family. He has taken to following me around the house staring up at me with sad eyes...

So, Morgan, Adrianne, Mallory and I spent two days prepping and cooking and we had a fantastic Thanksgiving day feast. Another friend had some miscommunication about spending Thanksgiving with a family in San Sal, so last minute he came over to help us eat ours. Later on, our Scottish friend Pete showed up to eat leftovers too. We had a very relaxing and wonderful Thanksgiving with friends. Everybody brought family recipes so we each had a little piece of home. I was in charge of making the mashed potatoes…my favorite…and I got to lick the detachable spinners from the mixer when I finished…just like I used to do when I was a little girl at Grandma’s house.  We all also got the opportunity to Skype with our families at home (if only for a brief moment) so we could say hello.

The fun doesn’t end there. There is a big welcoming party for the new volunteers tonight, so we will be hitting the town to celebrate with all the PCVs here. Then Saturday a bunch of us are heading to the East to San Miguel to go to a huge celebration called “Carnaval” (as you probably guessed, meaning “carnival” in English). This is apparently one of the must-see events in the country, so I want to make it out there this year in case this is my last chance!

So, a few days of eating leftovers, a few parties, and some time with friends. Sounds like an excellent way to close up November and head into the final days of 2011! (Pictures of my Christmas decorations in my little campo house to come soon!)
