Bad news from Cental America…
Torrential downpours on the Pacific Coasts of Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador have caused floods, landslides, road closings, school closings, impeded transport, substantial damage to homes, and more than 40 deaths across the region.

Taken from the local newspaper "La Prensa Grafica"...picture of roads being washed away in the flooding.
Mauricio Funes, President of El Salvador, declared the country in a state of emergency yesterday afternoon.
PC volunteers are also in an elevated risk level known as “standfast.” Volunteers are required to report their whereabouts, and once confirmed they are in a safe location, they are instructed to remain there until further notice. Which means most volunteers are under a sort of house-arrest until the rain stops.

Another photo taken from "El Diario de Hoy" a local newspaper, showing the flooding of homes in the area just south of where I live.
Currently, we are going on day 6 of unceasing rainfall. The boredom is unbelievable. It is freezing cold, wet, and so dull it is painful. I took to watching the first season of Mad Men to occupy my time…which isn’t a terrible way of spending your day I suppose. I definitely makes me thankful I don’t live in the 60′s. The fashion may have been spectacular, but being an office secretary with a sexual harassment allowance clause in the the contact does not.
I guess my beach plans for the weekend are officially canceled. Damn. I suppose I must remain in my home, try to stay dry (a difficult task when the water is seeping through the cement walls), and suffer through a freezing cold bucket bath today. Current temperature here: somewhere around 55 degrees (less with the wind chill). Likelihood that I will get up the nerve to “shower” outside in the windy/rainy/sleety afternoon: 1 in 100.Then again, I might start to smell like mold…
Luckily, I purchased some food a few days ago, so I have enough provisions to last me through the weekend. If not, maybe I will go door-to-door begging for food. The gringa starving and begging for food…what a a sight to see.
