This is the life…

Hello! I can’t believe I haven’t written here in almost a month! Crazy how time passes so quickly! Speaking of time passing so quickly, we have passed the year mark, and we are coming to the home stretch, a little less than 8 months left in my PC service! I can’t believe it! I was just talking to a fellow volunteer yesterday about how we are approaching the 6 month mark, and at 6 months we are no longer allowed to apply for grant money…holy cow!

So, I had a little surprise trip home for a few short days…it was a blast! Lots of time by the pool, some crazy airport adventures (3 layovers, last one on the plane 3 separate times, and O’Hare=hell on Earth) dinner out every night, sleeping in late in my cozy bed, a beautiful wedding, a little fishing, some Shakespeare, lots of wine, and a many good friends. Actually, I had a little too much fun because it took everything I had to drag myself back out to my very wet and moldy home here in the coffee field. But, alas, here I am, eating puppy chow out of an ENORMOUS gallon-sized bag (thanks Aunt Stacy and Mom!) and  checking my over 100 emails I have been neglecting. I would have liked to stay a little longer, but duty calls me back here to the campo.

I have a busy week ahead playing catch-up, which I am hoping will help ease the transition back into my Peace Corps life. A few meetings, a couple classes, and a few trips to the bank (I forgot my pin number to my debit card and have to go in and get in reset, or get a new card, or whatever they are going to make me do…I wasn’t gone THAT long, embarrassing!) should keep me occupied while I transition back to cold bucket baths, using a latrine, being constantly soaking wet and muddy, and going to bed at 8 pm. This is the life….

  1. It was great seeing you if only for a short while. Glad you were able to have a fun vacation back in Nebraska and look forward to when you will be home for good. Take care and stay safe. Love and hugs.

  2. I agree – time goes so fast! The older you get, the truer that is! So glad you were able to get home for a visit. I’m sure it helps to break up your time. But it sounds like you have had a great impact there and should be proud of your efforts! Between our vacation in Mexico, softball and volleyball, we haven’t been home since the beginning of May. Josie has out of town softball tournaments every weekend and her club volleyball team qualified for Nationals this year so instead of volleyball ending at the end of April, it continued through the summer until Nationals which were held in Atlanta the end of June-beginning of July. We were there for 6 days – Josie played great and got some great experience! Landed in Omaha late Friday night from Atlanta and had to leave at 5 am the next morning for her softball tourney in Sioux Falls. Not even home for the 4th. But softball ended the beginning of this week and now have some time to relax and enjoy the summer. Haven’t even had a chance to get to the lake yet – crazy! Jake has been busy as well with his new job and band is starting back up for school. That’s about all that is going on around here. Sounds like you are doing well. I like to read about your adventures! Take care and talk with you soon!
