Crisis…

Been having some computer difficulties (DAD, DO NOT PANIC). The LED screen is not working correctly and will only light up white. This is promising, being as most likely the connection between the screen and the compter base is the only problem, since the screen still lights up. There is a reliable guy the Peace Corps office uses to fix computers and I am taking it in to him on Wednesday when I have to go to the capital for my endocrinologist appointment. Hopefully, we will be fixed and back together soon. In the meantime, no Skype, no phone calls, but still checking email and FB via my Kindle. So, no worries if I am MIA for the week.

I had a minor panic attack when the crisis first happened, but I got to my zen place of “Accept the things you can not change, and change the things you can,” so I am addressing the problem in a calm, rational manner. Who says you can not teach an old dog new tricks? Nonetheless, it is a difficult blow to my sanity here, but will persevere.

Getting ready for the week, starting with English classes today, youth group meeting tomorrow, trip to get food for the Nutrition Center AND pick up my supplies for my grant project (art projects in the Nutrition Center) then appointment in the capital Wednesday, class again Thursday, and filling the in-between time hanging out in the community, washing clothes, and trying to get in to talk to the mayor (busy guy!). All in all a moderately busy week with some unwanted traveling, but with enough good stuff to keep my spirits up.

This past weekend attended a self-defense training to learn how to teach others simple self-defense techniques and give presentations on self-esteem. It was a very fun and interesting lesson, and I am looking forward to teaching it in my site. I think my youth group will love it.

Attended a conference last Thursday and Friday over safety and security in the region. Learned many unsettling statistics I will not share here…
At said conference, I was elected the Sonsonate/Auachupan region security warden. That, of course, means nothing to you, but basically I help the security director in the event of an emergency, and serve as another contact point in the area in case one is needed. Not too much work, but nice to know I am contributing to the organization as a whole, and not just in my site.

Happy to be starting a fresh week, and happy the rainy season has not started yet…plan on taking advantage of the sunny days I have left!

  1. So, as the security warden will you throw a cup of water at someone if there’s an emergency? Or just blow your huge whistle?
